Heading South East from the Bay of Pollenca is The Bay of Alcudia, a larger Bay which hosts Alcudia and Puerto de Alcudia on its Northern shores.
Alcudia has evolved from an old fishing port and fortified town. With its own character and distinct history, Alcudia was originally a Phoenician selltement and was then colonised by the Greeks. With its harbour it is a popular destination for boating enthusiasts and the coastline and countryside are lovely.
As with Puerto de Pollenca and other coastal towns on Mallorca, the main town is sightly inland so you have Puerto de Alcudia and also the town of Alcudia a few minutes away. (The towns were structured like this as a defence against pirates and other unwelcome guests).
The coastline heading South from the Bay Of Alcudia has real variety, with a number of distinct resort areas providing comprehensive facilities and entertainment for holiday-makers. Most sorts of entertainment are available, including water-sports and nightlife. The coastline here is stunning with some fabulous beaches, and also small rocky coves.
For example, Colonia de Sant Pere which lies on the South East side of the Bay of Alcudia is still a fishing village and also a resort. Surrounded by dramatic mountains, nature reserves and beautiful coastline this is a great location for those wanting a real get-away. It is off the beaten track, but with a journey time from Palma and the airport of about 1 hour it is still relatively easy to access. Walkers and nature lovers should give this area some consideration.
Further down the coast is Cala Ratjada. Once also a fishing village this grew popular with Germans as a holiday resort and holiday homes location. Now, however, we are finding it increasingly popular with the British. Good for water sports, beaches and most types of recreational activity including a lively nightlife.
Sa Coma, Cala Millor and Cala Bona are lively holiday resorts with superb beaches, plenty of recreational activities and restaurants.
Alcudia offers a mixture of old and new apartments in community developments along with a great boating harbour. Alcudia to one side, the North East is is one of the least-developed areas of Mallorca although, as with the Pollenca area, we expect the improved road access from Palma to make this area better-known and more popular for second homes and rental investments.
Colonia de Sant Pere offers some new apartments opportunities and also some of the best affordable small coastal villas available. Cala Ratjada, Sa Coma, Cala Bona and Cala Millor offer more typical holiday apartments at notably lower prices than the South West.
Alcudia is generally slightly less expensive than Puerto de Pollenca and offers an alternative for those looking for a holiday apartment or villa, particularly for boating enthusiasts.
Cala Ratjada, Sa Coma, Cala Bona, Cala Millor are more focused on holiday apartments and offer a mixture of resale and off-plan opportunities in good quality developments, at prices you are unlikely to find elsewhere. This is one of our recommended areas for affordable investments into this type of property.
Alcudia offers apartments from Euro 150.00 upward although the better 2-bed properties will be Euro 225.000 upward, with sea views and proximity to the harbour or sea-front commanding a premium.
Cala Ratjada, Sa Coma, Cala Bona, Cala Millor offer good opportunities starting around Euro 175.000 for properties within walking distance to the sea.
