The South coast is a beautiful coastline and represents the most remote and least known part of the Island. The coastline here
features some lovely beaches including Es Trenc which is perhaps the most famous beach in Mallorca. The Southern tip remains relatively undeveloped with a few resorts such as Sa Colonia de Sant Jordi which is located on a rocky headland close to the beach of Es Trenc.
Moving in an North East up the coast you come to holiday resorts such as Sa Rapita and S'Estanyol and Cala Pi which are very picturesque, with plenty to do and benefiting from a lovely coastline. Cala Pi in particular is an interesting place to consider for holiday apartments, being relatively close to Palma but less expensive than the coast on the other side of the city.
From Cala Pi up to Palma itself takes you through an area that has been a real focus of development over the past few years, and eventually back into S'Arenel which is a suburb of Palma - in many respects the German equivalent to Magaluf, with many bars and nightclubs.
This is another area where there are good buying opportunities for holiday apartments and townhouses in community developments, including off-plan properties which are increasingly rare on Mallorca.
Consider these locations as an alternative to the North East and South East Coasts. Be aware, however, that overall they are less well-known and it will be some time before they develop the established feel that the South East coast and many parts of the North East hold.
Cala Pi is one of the best established and most interesting resorts and a possible alternative to the North East and South East coasts of Mallorca. Generally, however, better to consider these areas if you want to speculate on slightly longer term gains in a rental investment or holiday property.
Apartments starting around Euro 160.000 for 1-bed properties and Euro 200.000 for 2-bed properties within walking distance to the sea. It is possible to buy a new-build 3-bed villa here for Euro 350.000 to Euro 400.000.
